As always, in the height of fuel prices issues and impacts, controversy with Malaysia always follows. This kind of threads is usually effective to attract the Indonesian public attentions, arises negative sentiments to the neighbouring country and subsequently shifts the focus from the fuel prices hike impacts.
I predict this issue will come forward as soon as the FPI controversies calmed down. Here it is:
TNI will protest Malaysia for building helipad near the country’s boundary
The Indonesia military found a Malaysia’s helipad with a distance of 7 meters from the boundary of the two countries in Kalimantan. The helipad was found when Indonesia’s Forestry Department, along with the TNI, was patrolling the area for illegal logging. According to the Sosek Malindo agreement between Indonesia and Malaysia, any activities within 2 kilometres from the boundary must obtain permit from the other country. Therefore, the helipad construction without Indonesia’s knowledge and permission is contrary to the agreement and the TNI will subsequently protest and ask for Malaysia’s clarification. In addition, the TNI will also increase security measures and monitoring around the country’s boundary.
