Thinking of going bilingual

So far, I have been blogging in English. The reason is because I have seen lack of understanding about Indonesia and its situation among foreigners or those who live outside the country.

However, now I also observe that public discourse in Indonesia is also very distorted. I see there are two main reasons why it happens. First, because I am now aware that even among Indonesians, understanding about our own situation is also lacking. Secondly, there are those who dubbed themselves as 'experts' purposely distort the public discourse for their own interests.

Therefore, I'm now thinking of going bilingual blogging. Issues that might concern foreign readers will still be written in English, while posts in Bahasa Indonesia will aim at domestic readers. This is not to underestimate the ability of Indonesian readers to speak English, but may be using our own language will be more appropriate and better understood.

I hope this plan will not make Fatih, who has long encouraged Indonesian bloggers to blog in English, disappointed. :-) Continue>>
